The London Allergy and Immunology Centre (LAIC) is one of the UK’s most established and comprehensive private allergy services, bringing together expert GMC-registered consultants in allergy and clinical immunology, paediatric allergy, dermatology, and ENT under one roof. We provide accurate diagnosis and effective, evidence-based treatment for adults, children, and families experiencing allergic and immunological conditions.

Our diagnostic approach is grounded in the most current international guidelines, including the EAACI 2025 guidelines on IgE-mediated food allergy and the EMA allergen immunotherapy guideline (January 2026), which sets new standards for allergen product development and specialist oversight. We use clinically validated tests and avoid unproven or pseudoscientific allergy tests, which are prevalent in the unregulated private sector.

Why Choose the London Allergy & Immunology Centre?

Consultant-Led Every Time

Every consultation is conducted personally by a GMC-registered specialist consultant — never a nurse or GP alone. Our Medical Director, Professor Michael Rudenko MD PhD FAAAAI, has decades of research experience in allergy, asthma, immunotherapy, and clinical trials.

Advanced Molecular Diagnostics

We offer ALEX³ component-resolved diagnostics (300 allergens and molecular components in a single blood test), ISAC molecular profiling, and a full range of skin prick, intradermal, patch, and challenge tests — enabling precision diagnosis beyond standard IgE screening.

Disease-Modifying Treatments

We are one of very few UK private clinics offering the full range of allergen immunotherapy: subcutaneous immunotherapy (SCIT), sublingual immunotherapy (SLIT), venom immunotherapy (VIT), peanut oral immunotherapy (Palforzia®), and biologic therapies including omalizumab (Xolair).

Evidence-Based, Not Pseudoscientific

We use only validated, scientifically proven tests and treatments. We do not offer unproven tests such as hair analysis, kinesiology, Vega testing, or non-specific food intolerance panels that are not supported by EAACI or BSACI evidence-based guidelines.

Global Network & Continuity of Care

As part of the Global Allergy Network of Excellence, we welcome patients transferring immunotherapy from the US, Europe, Australia, New Zealand, and beyond. We provide long-term care, annual reviews, specialist second opinions, and transition from paediatric to adult allergy services.

Fast Access & Flexible Appointments

Consultant appointments are typically available within one week, and same-day urgent video consultations can often be arranged. No GP referral is required for self-pay patients. We also offer secure UK telemedicine appointments for remote consultations and selected postal testing pathways.

Allergy Testing — What We Offer

We offer more than 600 allergy tests across all clinically validated methods. Per the EAACI 2025 guidelines, component-resolved diagnostics (CRD) should now be used as standard to distinguish primary sensitisation from cross-reactive responses and to guide immunotherapy selection. Our full diagnostic pathway reflects this.

ALEX³ Molecular Allergy Test

300 allergens and molecular components tested from a single blood sample. Identifies specific sensitising proteins (e.g. Ara h 2 for peanut, Bet v 1 for birch pollen), enabling precise risk stratification and the distinction between genuine allergy and harmless cross-reactivity.

ISAC Component-Resolved Diagnostics

Multiplex IgE testing on a biochip platform. Particularly useful for patients with complex multi-allergen sensitivities, polysensitised individuals, and cases where cross-reactive carbohydrate determinants (CCDs) may confound standard IgE results.

Learn more →

Skin Prick Testing (SPT)

Fast, safe, and highly sensitive. Results available within 20 minutes. Safe from birth when clinically appropriate. Used for inhalant allergens, foods, drugs, insect venoms, and latex. Performed by trained specialist nurses or directly by the consultant.

Learn more →

Specific IgE (RAST) Blood Tests

Quantitative measurement of allergen-specific IgE for over 600 individual allergens. Particularly useful when skin testing is not possible (e.g. severe eczema, antihistamine use, dermographism). Results inform risk level and immunotherapy candidacy.

Learn more →

Allergen Challenge (Provocation) Tests

Supervised oral food challenges (OFC) and drug provocation tests — the gold standard for confirming or excluding allergy. Conducted in clinic with full resuscitation facilities and medical supervision. Used for diagnosis, threshold assessment, and de-labelling.

Patch Testing & Other Specialist Tests

Patch testing for allergic contact dermatitis; urticaria histamine release testing; basophil activation testing; baseline serum tryptase; gluten and lactose intolerance investigations; intradermal testing for drug and venom allergy.

Important: We do not offer unvalidated tests including hair mineral analysis, applied kinesiology, Vega testing, Alcat tests, or broad IgG food intolerance panels not supported by evidence-based allergy guidelines. These tests are not recommended by EAACI, BSACI, or NICE and can lead to unnecessary dietary restriction.

Treatment Options

We offer the full spectrum of evidence-based allergy treatments, from emergency medication planning through to disease-modifying immunotherapy programmes. Every treatment plan is personalised by your consultant following a comprehensive diagnostic assessment.

Allergen Immunotherapy (AIT)

The only treatment that addresses the underlying cause of allergy, not just symptoms. Suitable for hay fever, allergic asthma, cat and dog allergy, house dust mite allergy, and venom allergy. Available as:

  • SCIT — subcutaneous injections (conventional, cluster, rush, ultra-rush)
  • SLIT — sublingual drops or tablets (home-based, 3–5 years)
  • VIT — venom immunotherapy for wasp and bee sting allergy

Peanut Oral Immunotherapy (Palforzia®)

Recommended by EAACI 2025 guidelines for children and adolescents aged 4–17 with confirmed peanut allergy. The only licensed medicinal OIT product in the UK. BSACI 2024 prescribing guidance followed. Full pre-treatment food challenge workup required.

Biologic Therapies

Omalizumab (Xolair) — anti-IgE monoclonal antibody for allergic asthma, chronic urticaria, and as an adjunct to OIT in highly sensitised patients. Suitability assessed individually based on age, diagnosis, IgE level, and risk profile. EAACI 2025 also supports omalizumab for IgE-mediated food allergy.

Emergency Medication & Action Plans

Personalised written emergency action plans, adrenaline auto-injector (EpiPen, Jext) prescription and training, and assessment for EURneffy® (the MHRA-approved needle-free adrenaline nasal spray, available on private prescription from October 2025). School and workplace allergy plans provided.

Medication Review & Optimisation

Review and optimisation of antihistamines, nasal corticosteroids, bronchodilators, and leukotriene antagonists. Assessment for beta-blocker or ACE inhibitor drug interactions in venom allergy patients. Drug allergy de-labelling where appropriate.

Dietary Advice & Intolerance Testing

Clinically validated assessment for food intolerance including gluten sensitivity / coeliac disease and lactose intolerance. Practical dietary advice provided, with referral to an accredited dietitian where appropriate.

NEW IN 2025

EURneffy® — The First Needle-Free Adrenaline Treatment for Anaphylaxis in the UK

In July 2025, the MHRA approved EURneffy® (adrenaline nasal spray, 2 mg) — the first needle-free emergency treatment for anaphylaxis in the UK, for adults and children weighing 30 kg or more. It became available on private prescription from October 2025.

How it works

Delivers 2 mg adrenaline via the nasal mucosa, absorbed rapidly into the bloodstream. Clinical pharmacology studies confirm bioequivalence to injected adrenaline auto-injectors.

Who it is for

Adults and children weighing 30 kg or more. A lower-dose 1 mg version for children 15–30 kg is under MHRA review and expected in 2026. Not a replacement for auto-injectors — suitability assessed individually.

At our clinic

Our consultants can assess your suitability and prescribe EURneffy as an alternative or addition to a traditional auto-injector. Carry two doses. Training provided at the time of prescription.

Your First Appointment — What to Expect

No GP referral is required for self-pay patients. Here is what a typical first allergy consultation involves:

1

Register & Book

Register online as a new patient at allergycentrelondon.co.uk, then book your consultation. Same-day urgent video appointments can often be arranged — call 020 3143 3449.

2

Detailed Clinical History

Your consultant will take a thorough history of your symptoms, previous reactions, co-existing conditions, family history, medications, and lifestyle factors. This takes as long as it needs to — no rushed appointments.

3

Allergy Tests (if appropriate)

Skin prick testing can be performed at the same visit when clinically appropriate (results within 20 minutes). Blood tests for specific IgE and molecular profiling (ALEX³, ISAC) are arranged and results reviewed at a follow-up appointment.

4

Diagnosis & Personalised Plan

Your consultant will explain your diagnosis clearly, provide a written summary, and agree a personalised treatment plan covering avoidance, medications, emergency planning, immunotherapy options, and any further investigations required. A detailed clinic letter is sent to you and, with consent, to your GP.

5

Insurance & Payment

We accept most major private health insurance plans. Self-pay patients are also welcome — no GP referral required. Contact us to confirm insurance acceptance before booking. For insured patients, a GP referral letter is often required by your insurer prior to the appointment.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a GP referral to be seen privately?

No. Self-pay patients do not need a GP referral. You can register and book directly online. If you are using private health insurance, your insurer may require a GP referral letter before they will cover the cost — please check your policy before booking.

How quickly can I get an appointment?

Consultant appointments are typically available within one week. For urgent queries, we will do our best to arrange a same-day phone or video consultation — please register online first and then call 020 3143 3449 to save time.

What is the difference between allergy testing at a private clinic and at my GP?

GPs can request basic allergy blood tests but rarely offer the full diagnostic range available at a specialist clinic. A private allergy clinic provides consultant-level expertise, a much broader test panel (including skin prick testing, intradermal tests, molecular profiling, and supervised food challenges), and the ability to start treatment — including immunotherapy — directly. NHS allergy services are limited and can have very long waiting times.

I have been told I am allergic to many foods based on an IgG test. What should I do?

IgG food tests (often sold as “food intolerance panels”) are not recommended by EAACI, BSACI, or NICE. Elevated IgG to foods is a normal consequence of eating those foods and does not indicate allergy or intolerance. Unnecessary elimination diets based on IgG results can lead to nutritional deficiencies, anxiety, and impaired quality of life. A proper allergy assessment at our clinic can clarify which, if any, foods are genuinely problematic.

I started immunotherapy abroad and am moving to London — can you continue my treatment?

Yes, in many cases. We welcome patients transferring from the US, Europe, Australia, New Zealand, and other countries. We will need to contact your originating physician and confirm vaccine availability in the UK. Please bring all documentation of your current immunotherapy programme to your first consultation. Call us on 020 3143 3449 to discuss your specific situation before booking.
