Allergy Tests Available to Order
We offer over 600 validated allergy tests. All tests are ordered and interpreted by a qualified allergy consultant. We do not offer unvalidated tests such as IgG food panels, hair analysis, kinesiology, or Vega testing.
ALEX³ Molecular Allergy Test →
300 allergens and molecular components from one blood sample. Distinguishes true allergy from cross-reactivity. Available in-clinic or by at-home postal kit. The most comprehensive allergy blood test available in the UK.
112 molecular components on a biochip platform. Particularly useful for polysensitised patients and for identifying cross-reactive carbohydrate determinants (CCDs) that may produce false-positive results on standard panels.
Fast, safe, and highly sensitive first-line allergy test. Results within 20 minutes. Safe from birth. Used for foods, pollens, pets, dust mite, moulds, drugs, venoms, and latex. Antihistamines must be stopped 3–7 days beforehand.
Specific IgE Blood Tests (RAST) →
Quantitative measurement of allergen-specific IgE for 600+ individual allergens on the ImmunoCAP platform. Does not require stopping antihistamines. Suitable when skin testing is not possible (severe eczema, dermographism).
Supervised Food & Drug Challenge Tests →
Gold standard for confirming or excluding food or drug allergy. Conducted under close medical supervision with full resuscitation facilities. Used for diagnosis, threshold assessment, and drug de-labelling.
Gold standard for allergic contact dermatitis. Panels of contact allergens applied to the back for 48 hours. Interpreted by dermatology consultants. Particularly useful for occupational skin allergy and cosmetic allergy.
Urticaria Histamine Release Test →
Identifies autoimmune chronic spontaneous urticaria (CSU) and guides omalizumab therapy decisions. Measures histamine released from donor basophils by patient serum.
Gluten & Lactose Intolerance Testing →
Coeliac serology (IgA tTG, IgA EMA), HLA-DQ2/DQ8 genotyping, and hydrogen breath test for lactose intolerance. Referral for small bowel biopsy where indicated.

How to Book — Step by Step
Register as a new patient
Register online at allergycentrelondon.co.uk. This takes just a few minutes and allows you to book, manage appointments, and access results through the secure Carebit patient portal.
Book your appointment or order your test
Book online via allergycentrelondon.co.uk, or call our appointment lines. Consultants are typically available within one week. Same-day urgent video consultations can often be arranged — call 020 3143 3449. For at-home tests, order online at foodallergytest.co.uk.
Prepare for your appointment
Read the preparation instructions in the section below. The most important step is stopping antihistamines 3 days before your appointment if skin prick testing is planned. Bring any relevant information: reaction photos, previous test results, medications list, and food samples if applicable.
Your consultation & tests
Your consultant will take a full clinical history, examine you where appropriate, perform or arrange allergy tests, discuss results, and produce a personalised management plan including written emergency plans, prescriptions, and a detailed letter to you and your GP.
Ongoing care & follow-up
We provide long-term ongoing care — regular reviews, immunotherapy monitoring, emergency plan updates, annual auto-injector checks, and treatment adjustments. All results and correspondence are available through your secure patient portal.
Preparing for Your Appointment
Good preparation helps your appointment run smoothly and ensures the most informative results. Please follow the guidance below carefully before attending.
⚠ Antihistamine Medication — Stop Before Skin Prick Testing
If skin prick testing (SPT) is planned, antihistamines must be stopped for at least 3 days (some antihistamines require 5–7 days) before your appointment. Antihistamines suppress the skin test response and will give falsely negative results. This applies to:
- All antihistamine tablets — cetirizine, loratadine, fexofenadine, chlorphenamine, hydroxyzine, desloratadine, acrivastine
- Antihistamine nasal sprays and eye drops
- Some combination cold/flu remedies that contain antihistamines — check the ingredients
You do NOT need to stop antihistamines if you are having a blood test only (specific IgE / ALEX³ / ISAC). Blood tests are not affected by antihistamines. If you are unsure which tests are planned, contact us before stopping any medication.
Bring with You
- A full list of all current medications (include doses)
- Any previous allergy test results
- Your GP referral letter (if using private health insurance)
- Photos of previous reactions if available (rash, swelling)
- A food diary if food allergy is suspected
Fresh Food Samples — When to Bring
- Fruits and vegetables: if you suspect allergy to a specific fruit or vegetable, bring a fresh sample — prick-prick testing (fresh food to skin) is more sensitive than commercial extracts for some plant foods
- Unusual fish or shellfish: if you suspect reaction to a specific type, bring a fresh or frozen sample in a sealed container
- Label any food samples with your full name
Urine Sample
Please bring a urine sample in a clean, sealed container labelled with your full name. This may be used for urinalysis where relevant to your clinical assessment. Your consultant will confirm whether this is needed at the time of booking.
Do Not Change
- Do not stop asthma inhalers, oral steroids, or any other prescribed medication without first speaking to the consultant or your GP
- Do not fast before a blood test — no fasting is required
- If you have had an allergic reaction in the 24 hours before your appointment, please call us in advance

Self-Pay Patients
Self-pay patients do not need a GP referral. You can book and register directly online. Consultation and test fees are payable directly. Please contact us for current fee information.
Private Health Insurance
We accept most major UK private health insurance plans. Your insurer will usually require a GP referral letter before authorising cover for your allergy consultation — please check your policy and obtain a referral before booking. Contact us to confirm we accept your specific plan before your appointment.
GP Referrals
While not required for self-pay patients, a GP referral letter provides important background and is usually needed by insurers. If your GP is reluctant to refer, you can self-refer privately without a letter — please mention this when booking. We will always write back to your GP with a full consultation letter.
